All teachers at Cashel Dennehy are certified by the Irish Dance Commission - An Coimisiun’ le Rinci Gaelacha. The term "TCRG" is a Gaelic acronym, and each teacher has passed an exhaustive exam to achieve qualification. Teachers with an "ADCRG" have taken an additional examination and are qualified to judge competitions! Kathy Dennehy is both a TCRG and an ADCRG. Our five teachers offer an incredible wealth of teaching experience, with well over 50 years collectively.
Kathy is our Dance Master, our head teacher, and the creative genius behind our dance steps. Cashel Dennehy's meteoric rise to prominence in the competitive arena over the last decade is due in large part to Kathy's unrelenting energy and drive. Kathy holds certification in both teaching and judging from the Irish Dancing Commission. Her teaching technique is exciting and dynamic, and she inspires her students to strive for success with her contagious enthusiasm and innovative solo steps. She teaches dancers at the Open Prizewinner, Preliminary Championship, and Open Championship, and Championship Team levels.
Laura has been with Cashel Dennehy for over 25 years and began assistant teaching alongside Mr. Dennehy in 1991. After receiving her TCRG in 1995, she continued to teach in Milwaukee and also began a branch of Cashel Dennehy (formerly Scoil Roe Dennehy) in Door County WI where she taught for 10 years while attending medical school, residency and fellowship in Chicago. In 2005, she moved back to Milwaukee to become Director of Sports Medicine at the St. Joseph Family Medicine Residency Program. She continues to pursue her love of dance medicine working with the Milwaukee Ballet and many of the local Irish dance schools. Laura teaches beginners through Championship level and has a special interest in preparing our teams and upper level dancers for Regional, National, and World competition.
Kate takes special pride in the tremedous success of her efforts to coordinate, teach and coach Cashel Dennehy's many ceili teams. Kate is a graduate of Marquette University with a BA in History. She has been a part of Cashel Dennehy for over 20 years. Kate teaches all levels and is the major choreographer for our shows.
Maura Heck is a valuable member of the Cashel Dennehy teaching staff and is especially involved in our Madison location. Maura has also been with Cashel for over 20 years. Maura teaches all levels of dancers, as well as Cashel Dennehy ceili teams. In addition, she contributes heavily to Cashel Dennehy's performances throughout the year. Maura received her TCRG in 2003 and graduated from Marquette University in 2004.
